The Great Conjunction

Mind’s series of interviews and music video clips with A-list musicians, who reveal how their mental health relates to writing and performing their songs.

The series is a vulnerable, thoughtful look behind the scenes of song-writing.

Behind the Song

Comedy and Language research project based on a feature script about two Czech immigrants in the ‘60s who attempt to build a new life in Australia.

The approach to the script’s extract that contained 4 characters and dialogues in 3 languages was to mimic a theatre play to maximise the script’s potential and comedic effect, whilst being filmed in one wide continuous shot.

About

Karolina is a Czech London-based film director and editor, with producing and screenwriting experience. Her storytelling journey started in Aberdeen where she graduated in English Literature, Film and Visual Culture, and consequently completed her MA in Film Production at the University of Greenwich.

Although still in her early career, Karolina has made several short films, with the award-winning 'Great Conjunction' that has been awarded the best direction, best film and best script across several festivals in the UK and Europe. Following that, Karolina received a mentorship by Maggie Todd, the Vice President Communications of Disney Studios, and wrote a feature script for 'The Great Conjunction', which was shortlisted into the top 7 scripts in the United Kingdom in the Annual Screenwriting Competition by Euroscript.

Whilst honing her skills as a storyteller, Karolina has been working with agencies and production companies in London, editing video content - events, advertisements, interviews, and short films for small and big screens. She shaped videos for brands and organisations such as Google, Mind, Amazon, BFI, SkyTV, The Royal Opera House, Quickbooks and many others.

In 2023, Karolina launched the Czech podcast 'Karolky,' original bedtime stories that support children in their emotional awareness. The podcast has gathered 100K streams within its first year all around the world. In April 2024, Karolky was selected for a prestigious start-up accelerator program in the Czech Republic, called 3-2-1 Dílna.

Alison Palmer, Freelance TV Producer

“Whilst working with Karolina, I was extremely impressed with her levels of professionalism across all the disciplines in production. Karolina is a talented writer, but to ensure ‘The Great Conjuntion’ has been a huge success she has also shown a great aptitude for producing and has shown great skill in trouble shooting situations that arose. Karolina keeps a clear head, she performs well under pressure, has a clear and concise vision but is also open to feedback and re-working /development of ideas if need be. This attitude to a flexible way of thinking and working combined with her clear skills and talents, I believe will help her to have a very bright future indeed. ”
